Mapping subsurface tile lines on a research farm using aerial photography, paper maps, and expert knowledge

Accurate maps of subsurface tile drainage lines are needed for agronomic and environmental research studies the maintenance current systems. In this study, at Purdue University Agronomy Center Research Education near West Lafayette, Indiana were located using a combination visual aerial photo interpretation, expert knowledge, paper construction drawings. The mapping accuracy was assessed 27 locations where physically probe. Tile correctly predicted 89% time with an average spatial ±1.23 m true locations. This approach better than previous line location map prepared automated remote sensing method, which had ±2.12 m.
